Flash Fiction: The Heist

Another week, another flash fiction story.

I hope everyone is doing well as always, I have another flash fiction story for you. This week the group decided to up the word count to 500 instead of 400, because we really enjoyed the prompt we were given:

Setting: The story ends in a temple.

Situation: Your character is in their favorite movie.

Action: Your character has to resort to underhanded tactics to achieve their goal.

So I threw Castiel into his favorite movie, which I had to make up, and made the character names match up with characters in his life, because why wouldn't I be clever like that? Our cast list for this story is:

Castian: Castiel

Fei: Fox (Castiel's romantic partner).

Constance: Cornelius (Castiel's blood father).

Janus: James (Fox's abuser for the past 10 years).

I want to put in a content warning for swearing and a gun, although it's never used to harm anyone. I'll stop talking, enjoy the story!

I throw on the yellow contacts Constance gave me to finish my disguise and clear my throat. Once I get out of the car, I'm a Sunstone priest. Remember your mission Castian, the head priest is the only one you want.

I hide my gun in the belt under my robes and head for the Temple. I climb the endless spiral staircase to reach the top floor.

I hear Constance in my earpiece, “I'm opening the head priest's door.”

I'm met by Fei at the top, our informant and the head priest's captive. A beautiful Azurite woman the head priest pretends is his assistant.

"Greetings Arvaire.

She gets right to the point, “He's expecting you.”

Using telepathy, which I shouldn't be seen using since I look like a Yellow Gem and not a Green one, I say, “I like a challenge.”

Her hand brushes mine as I escape, I don't need to be in her mind to know she's worried. Worry is the last thing I have on my mind as I burst open the door, immediately pulling out my gun and aiming for the head priest.

“If it isn't Castian. You can leave the gun at the door.”

“You brought a gun!?” Constance screams.

I shoot the security camera in the room to the protest of Constance, “I don't think I will, Arvaire.”

“You've chosen the hard way.”

I ignore Constance's cries, spinning the gun around my index finger as the head priest comes closer.

“I dare you, shoot me.”

I toss and catch the gun, pulling the trigger, “Oops, looks like I'm out of rounds.”

The head priest shakes his head, “A true idiot. May Lady Sapphire have mercy on your pitiful soul.”

I catch a glimpse of who the head priest really is— a Green Gem man who's mind controlling the real head priest— Janus.

“I really thought I'd need a gun,” I snicker, walking closer to the head priest and using my mind abilities to enter his mind. I hate doing this, but the law doesn't apply to outlaws.

I start messing with Janus' connection to his mind and feel a sudden release. I leave the head priest's mind as I catch his falling body and sit it in a chair. I take the pendent off his neck, hearing Constance again.

“Now bring it back.”

I laugh, “I know you're going to use it for bad shit too. I've got my own plans.”

I throw my earpiece on the ground and crush his only way to track me. I run and grab Fei by the wrist, sprinting for the exit.

“I promise to always keep you safe.”

“Castiel, I know you hate the Temple but we're just for my father.”

I look to see Fox sitting beside me in the car.

“Did I doze off?”

“Sure did. You must've had a strange dream.”

“Just saving you from an evil priest like the protagonist of my favorite movie does.”

Fox laughs, “Thank you for keeping me safe.”

Have a wonderful week everyone, see you soon.
